Sod Installers in Ontario, by city

Every business on these pages has said, in its own words, that it lays sod. The largest groups work around Mississauga, Ottawa, Markham, North York and Hamilton, and Kitchener, Cambridge, Guelph and Waterloo each have a page of their own. Smaller towns further than a short drive from a city page, from Kenora and Elliot Lake to Kincardine and Cornwall, keep a page too.

Toronto appears as six pages: Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York and York, following the way addresses there are written, so look under the part of the city where the lawn is. Many installers travel to the job rather than working from a shop address. Their card names the city they serve, and their descriptions name the towns they cover.

Before any lawn is dug up, Ontario requires a utility locate. Ontario Dig Authority, formerly Ontario One Call, asks for the request at least 5 business days before digging, the locate is free, and the person doing the excavation should submit it. Lines the property owner owns, such as a gas line to a barbecue or power to a shed, need a private locate.

Watering new sod is a local matter. The Region of Waterloo issues a temporary permit for extra watering days from May 31 to September 30, Barrie allows newly laid sod to be watered for 14 days, and Markham allows 2 months. City pages carry the local rule where one applies.

Once the sod is down, Ontario's cosmetic pesticide rules shape the lawn care that follows: pesticides made with 2,4-D, Diazinon or glyphosate cannot be used to kill weeds or insects on lawns, and only ingredients on the province's Allowable List can.
